Recently, pod2g posted a list of devices that would support iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak and it includes the iPhone 4S.
However, the bad news is iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3G and Apple TV 3G won’t be supported. The A5 users will enjoy the new upcoming iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak.
The tool has been tested on iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPad 2 and iPad 1. The yet to be tested devices include Apple TV 2G and iPod Touch 4G. There was a hint from Chronic Dev Team and Pod2g that iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak may be revealed at ‘Hack In The Box’ conference next week. More details of the conference can be found here.
Those of you who don’t want to stay on the latest firmware can downgrade to a lower iOS version. The latest redsn0w 0.9.11b4 allows for a iOS 5.1.1 tethered jailbreak of you’re planning to stay on it.

If the iPhone you use is unlocked with tools that doesn’t support baseband update but still you want to be on the latest firmware, you can update the iDevice to the latest Apple’s operating system without baseband update and then perform the tethered jailbreak or wait for the untethered one.
You can check the list to see if you would be eligible for a jailbreak which is expected in a week or so. The hackers plan to hold such conferences entirely for a different purpose and these conferences and events are quite different from Apple’s official ones. Let’s see what Apple does next after iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak. This game may go on forever!
