The iPhone 7 is here and it’s carrying most of the features that were mentioned in the rumors such as the dual-lens cam with an appearance that’s curved and latest 4-component LED flash, high-gloss black color, and a lot more. Here’s all you need to know about Apple’s latest handset.

iPhone 7 Colors

Jet Black is the high-gloss finish, but the iPhone 7 will also come in classic Black matte. There is a glossy inset logo and subdued antenna lines. Colors will also include Silver, Gold and Rose Gold.

Dust & Water Protection

IP67 protection standard is there for iPhone 7. That means it is protected from water and dust damage.

Home button

The iPhone 7 has a next-gen home button. It has been re-engineered and customized. It uses Taptic Engine and force sensors, and upon pressing doesn’t move. There’s also Taptic Engine API enabling apps to make new feelings when accessing features like Messages, Notifications, etc.

Cameras

There’s optical image stabilization as well as a wide f/1.8 6-element lens that accommodates 50% more light. The sensor is 30% more efficient and 60% quicker, and there’s a flicker sensor to remove any flickering. Single processor inside the A10 chip performs billions of operations in 25 milliseconds. All the user has to do is tap the shutter button. Video image stabilization is applied to Live Photos. Developers can use new APIs to capture live images in their apps. RAW images can also be captured by anyone.

The FaceTime HD camera is now 7 megapixels. Then there’s the ability to capture shallow depth of image fields on iPhone 7 Plus, as machine learning looks at the image and makes a depth map, keeping the subject focus and doing a bokeh blur in background. The new Camera app has a new Portrait feature that enables this.

Retina Screen

The new Retina screen displays wide color gamut and is end-to-end colored managed. Any photos taken via iPhone 7 look amazing.

Headphones

The 3.55mm headphone jack is gone. Lightning-based EarPods are here, and a dongle to connect the classic headphones.

Wireless AirPods

This is one of the most exciting things about iPhone 7. The new W1 chip is built into these. Say hi to the AirPods. You don’t have wires to worry about as each wireless headphone fits in your ears perfectly. It comes with an accelerometer sensor and built-in motion, and double-tapping the headphones brings up Siri. Bluetooth pairing is offered, and AirPods have a 5-hour battery.

Battery & Storage

It is 2 hours more than the battery of iPhone 6s. The battery of iPhone 7 Plus is 1 hour more than iPhone 6s Plus. The storage options are 32 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB.

Stereo Speakers

This is the first iPhone with stereo speakers. The other speaker is above, providing best stereo experience when held in landscape position.

iPhone 7 / 7 Plus Price

It is $649 for iPhone 7, with iPhone 7 Plus and higher storage models worth more. The iPhone Upgrade program is available in China, United Kingdom and United States to give people financing choices. Pre-orders start on September 16 in The UK, US, Japan, Germany, Canada, Italy, and some other selected nations.
